Why Brazilians love spaghetti rings

-

BRAZILIANS love Waitrose’s spaghetti rings, the French are big fans of the posh supermarket’s baked beans and Australians go crazy for piccalilli.

Waitrose revealed orders for its food and drink to customers overseas are up by 20pc compared to 2016, through its partnership with online store British Corner Shop.

Exports of its baked beans to France are booming, with British Corner Shop exporting 66pc more of the supermarket’s baked beans compared to last year.

In Germany, shoppers are shunning the country’s bangers and instead plumping for Waitrose’s free range pork sausages and its chipolatas with honey and rosemary wrapped in bacon.

Italy buys the most ginger nut biscuits and Canadians love guzzling Waitrose’s bourbon creams.

The furthest orders come from Australia where the top seller is Waitrose’s mustard piccalilli. It has also exported gin and mince pies to the Cayman Islands and ice cream and profiteroles to Barbados. Mark Callaghan, managing director of British Corner Shop, said: ‘Brits [are] increasingly wanting a taste of home and new customers around the world [are] keen to try foods which aren’t readily available.’
