CLAUDE PUEL

DEFENDING his record at Southampton, Puel talked about last season’s League Cup final. ‘It was great at Wembley, they are good memories,’ he said. Odd, then, that Puel tossed away Leicester’s chances of reaching the Carabao Cup final by fielding a weak team against Manchester City. The Frenchman, more than anyone, knows what a cup run can do for a club and the only way he can vindicate his midweek selection is by ensuring his team beat Manchester United today.

TROY DEENEY

THE Watford striker had plenty to say about Arsenal after helping Watford to beat them in October. But since then Deeney has scored one goal — a penalty — as Watford have lost six of the seven games he has played in. Now he will be absent for Christmas following a sending-off against Huddersfield. Seems there is more to football than having ‘a bit of cojones’ after all.

LADBROKES

THE bookmaker has apologised to Sky presenter Dave Clark (right) for mocking his facial expressions on Twitter. Clark continues to do a brilliant job for Sky despite suffering from Parkinson’s disease. There may have been ignorance of Clark’s condition but that is no excuse. The gambling profession has been using social media as a vehicle for crassness for too long. Hopefully this episode puts an end to it.
