Holiday firms looking east
TRAVEL firms are increasing the number of holidays offered in Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia and even Albania in a backlash against price rises in Spain.
The deals will be promoted heavily in the Christmas and New Year sales which are crucial to the industry.
Hoteliers in Spain have put up prices in the past two years to cash in on a rise in demand from families looking for alternatives to terror-risk destinations such as Tunisia, Egypt and Turkey. At the same time, the fall in the value of the pound means Spain and the Balearics have become too expensive for many.
As a result holiday firms are looking for alternative hot spots. Bulgaria is particularly good value with its ‘Sunny Beach’ resort being named the cheapest destination in surveys for four years in a row.
