A change of tune

ALMOST with one voice, economists have been telling us since before the referendum that Brexit would be a financial calamity.

And when the UK lost its place as the world’s fifth biggest economy to France earlier this year, they gravely predicted we would slide further and further down the league table in future years.

What a different tone they are striking now. The Centre for Economics and Business Research think-tank admitted yesterday that its economists had been far too gloomy about Brexit and that Britain would again power ahead of France by 2020.

Could it be the agents of Project Fear are finally beginning to realise just how wrong their apocalyptic forecasts were?
