Brunch is a boost for sliced bread

-

SLICED bread sales are rising for the first time in three years, figures show, as consumers recreate pricey restaurant brunches at home.

Bread saw years of decline due to a ‘no carbs’ diet trend. But the number of families buying supermarket wrapped bread rose 397,000 in the 12 weeks to October 8, to its highest level in that period for more than five years, according to Nielsen for the Daily Telegraph.

Charles Banks, of The Food People, told the newspaper: ‘Brunchers are perhaps starting to see that shelling out £3 on a loaf of bread at home is much cheaper than going out for brunch.’
