JIMMY JOINS 100 CLUB WITH PRIZED SCALP

JIMMY ANDERSON (right) claimed his 100th Ashes scalp when he removed David Warner. He is the 18th player to take 100 Ashes wickets and the seventh Englishman after Ian Botham (128), Bob Willis (123), Wilfred Rhodes (109), Sydney Barnes (106), Alec Bedser (104) and Bobby Peel (101).

THAT wicket was also Anderson’s 519th in Tests, moving him level with Courtney Walsh as the joint-fifth leading Test wicket-taker of all time:

1 MUTTIAH MURALITHARAN 800 2 SHANE WARNE 708 3 ANIL KUMBLE 619 4 GLENN McGRATH 563 =5 JIMMY ANDERSON 519 =5 COURTNEY WALSH 519 7 KAPIL DEV 434

UNBEATEN on 65 at the end of the first day, Steve Smith had faced 624 balls at the MCG without being dismissed. Since he was out for 14 against India in 2014, he has scored 134* and 70* against West Indies and 165* against Pakistan.

STUART BROAD ended a run of 414 balls without a wicket when he dismissed Usman Khawaja for 17. His last wicket was Mitchell Starc in the first innings in Adelaide. It was his longest barren spell, surpassing his 401 wicketless balls in 2012.

DAVID WARNER is the joint-fourth fastest Australian to score 6,000 Test runs — in his 129th innings. He is behind Don Bradman (68 innings), Ricky Ponting (125), Matthew Hayden (126) and level with Greg Chappell (129).
