On the scent of votes
THERESA MAY ditching the promised free vote on the Hunting Bill is a big mistake. She thinks this gesture will attract more young urbanites into joining the Conservative Party.
David Cameron also promised this vote, but reneged on it because he foolishly wanted to ‘modernise’ the party. For every new member that Cameron attracted through the front door, several life-long committed members left by the back door.
I was a membership secretary for a Conservative Association at the time and witnessed the haemorrhage.
The large and loyal hunt fraternity and the rural vote have been overlooked in pursuit of metropolitan squishy-Left, Labour-lite policies. Proper policies and a full Brexit will give them reason to return.
