Have a nice trip! Police catch f leeing suspect thanks to City worker

- Daily Mail Reporter

A HAVE-a-go heroine tripped up a man who was fleeing police after he allegedly assaulted a female officer.

Kelly Ball was on a night out with friends when she spotted a suspect being chased by police in Hertford town centre.

The quick-thinking City worker put her leg out – sending him crashing to the pavement and allowing officers to arrest him.

Miss Ball said: ‘We had just come out of the bar and there was a bit of a commotion and saw the police chasing the guy.

‘I don’t know why, but I just stuck my leg out anyway. He was running quite fast and had a good old trip.

‘My leg was throbbing for the rest of the evening. It left me with a big bruise. I don’t really know what came over me – I just wanted to help.’ However, the 28-year-old thought nothing of her good deed, which was captured on CCTV, and continued enjoying her Christmas Eve night out.

She said: ‘We just carried on our night after as normal. I didn’t even think about it.’

She joked: ‘I just hope the guy doesn’t hunt me down afterwards.’ Police had been called to an incident involving threats to door staff. They chased a man suspected of assaulting a woman officer before he was tripped by Miss Ball.

East Hertfordshire Chief Inspector Gerry McDonald said: ‘Her initiative allowed my officers to capture the suspect and quickly arrest him.

‘By the time the officers had detained him ... the member of the public had left the scene so they did not get a chance to say thank you.’

Aaron Cadman, 23, of Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, has been charged with possession of cocaine, assaulting a police officer, and being drunk and disorderly.

He is due to appear at Stevenage magistrates’ court on January 24.
