Can exercise slow down Parkinson’s?

-

EXERCISE can slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease, preventing symptoms worsening, researchers at Northwestern Medicine and the University of Colorado Denver, both in the U.S., have found.

Their study involved 128 people aged 40 to 80 who were in the early stages of the disease, but not taking medication for it, and compared doing high-intensity cardio exercise three times a week with taking no exercise.

All the participants had symptoms rated as 20 on a scale ranging from zero to 108. After six months, the exercise group had stayed at 20, while the control group had worsened by around three points. Previously, scientists believed high-intensity exercise would be too physically stressful for Parkinson’s patients.
