City reveal Jesus will be out for six weeks

- By CHRIS WHEELER

MANCHESTER CITY confirmed last night Gabriel Jesus damaged the medial ligament in his left knee against Crystal Palace.

The Brazil striker left the pitch in tears during City’s goalless draw at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

he is expected to be out for around six weeks, although the club’s medical staff will assess him over the next few days.

The injury is a setback for the Premier League leaders, who may now consider an offer for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez in the transfer window rather than waiting until the Chile star is a free agent at the end of the season.

The Brazilian will miss tonight’s Premier League clash with Watford at the Etihad followed by Saturday’s FA Cup third-round meeting with Burnley.

City host Bristol City in next Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg before the league leaders travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on January 14. Guardiola’s men finish the month with a home game against Newcastle before their second leg with Bristol City and a visit to West Bromwich Albion on Janury 31.

A club statement read: ‘ Manchester City can confirm Gabriel Jesus suffered a medial collateral ligament injury during the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday.

‘he will undergo further examinations in the coming days to establish the extent of his lay-off.’

Jesus has made 32 appearances this season for club and country, scoring 12 goals, with his most recent coming in the 2-0 win over Leicester in November.

Kevin De Bruyne also suffered a knee injury against Palace in a tackle by Jason Puncheon. he left the Selhurst Park pitch on a stretcher and is likely to miss tonight’s game, but the injury is not thought to be serious.
