Six arrested in raids against far-Right group
FIVE men and a woman were arrested in raids yesterday on suspicion of belonging to the banned far-Right terror organisation National Action.
The group, which has been linked to the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox, was described by the Home Office as ‘virulently racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic’ and was banned in December 2016 by Home Secretary Amber Rudd.
The six suspects were held under the Terrorism Act. Being a member of or inviting support for the organisation is an offence, and those convicted face up to ten years in jail.
The arrests were carried out by West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit.
The men were a 26-year-old from Cambridge, a 21-year-old from Banbury in Oxfordshire, a 28-year-old from Wolverhampton, a 26-year-old from Leicester, and a 24-year-old from Stockport. They were all being held in the West Midlands last night. A 37-year-old woman from Banbury was being held separately at a station outside the force area.
The six are the latest in a string of arrests across the country since National Action was banned.
