Clough said I had a bigger head than him!

FIRST FOOTBALL MEMORY... The standout memory was signing for Preston north end aged 14. That was the moment it sunk in that i might be a footballer. From a younger age i remember kicking a ball around with my brother and dad. now my sons are footballers. Charlie, 19, is at ilkeston Town and Max, 15, is in the Doncaster academy. BEST PLAYER I’VE PLAYED WITH... Chris Waddle at Sheffield Wednesday. He was coming towards the end of his career but still had it. Some of the things he did in training and matches were outstanding. TOUGHEST OPPONENT... i remember neil ruddock giving me a bit of a clattering when he was playing for Southampton. But the one who always stuck in my mind was Tony adams. He was tough, no-nonsense and a leader. People like him have gone out of the game a little bit. FAVOURITE FOOTBALLING MOMENT... Scoring in front of the Forest fans to win the 1990 League Cup final against Oldham at Wembley has to be the standout highlight. There were not many celebrations afterwards and we were in training the next day. it was typical Brian Clough! SPORTING HERO... What Tiger Woods has achieved is unbelievable and i adore watching ronnie O’Sullivan. FAVOURITE FA CUP MOMENT... i got more publicity scoring those two goals for Shrewsbury against everton than for scoring that winner in the League Cup final. i went to Shrewsbury’s new ground for the first time recently. as you walk into the main reception there are names on the wall of legends of the football club. i had a joke with the chairman because i wasn’t on it! TOUGHEST AWAY GROUND... i never seemed to do well at Chelsea. i could never get the better of Frank Sinclair. FAVOURITE MANAGER... i could have signed for Manchester United with alex Ferguson but chose to sign for Brian Clough. i always admired him, loved the way Forest played their football and gave youngsters a chance. Luckily i got the chance to play under him. Once, i think i had scored a few goals and he went on Tv to say that there was only one person who had a bigger head than him ... me! everyone had so much respect for him. even when i left the club he always sent my parents a Christmas card.
