Angry Boycs gives Jimmy both barrels

- SPENCER MORGAN

GEOFFREY BOYCOTT has expressed his frustration at England’s humiliating 4-0 Ashes series defeat, with bowler Jimmy Anderson on the receiving end.

The England legend, who is in Australia for BT Sport, was discussing the series with ex- skipper Michael Vaughan and Anderson when he took exception to a comment made by Paul Farbrace.

The England assistant coach’s response to his team’s failure in Australia had been to say that ‘planning needs to start in the next couple of days’ if the national side are to have any chance of winning in Australia in four years’ time. And with Farbrace not present, it was Anderson who was left to bear the brunt of Boycott’s disapproval.

Boycott charged: ‘It sounds great to all the public, but who the hell’s going to do the planning? I mean you ought to have been planning for this one two years ago. So if we’re going to start now, then who? Because we have 18 chairmen. None of them are cricketers, hardly any.’

Anderson exited the interview before Vaughan suggested the paceman was the wrong man to answer the question.

But Boycott hit back: ‘Well, he’s the vicecaptain. They must have discussed it. They talk about planning and preparing but they haven’t done it.’

Asked by Vaughan if he was finished, Boycott responded: ‘I hope so, I’ve had enough of this,’ before walking away and throwing his microphone to the floor.
