Equally over-paid
tHe BBc’S china editor carrie Gracie says she is quitting because she does not get the same pay as her male counterparts (Mail).
It is not the case that she and other female presenters are being underpaid, but rather that the men are being massively overpaid, all thanks to licence fee payers.
GEOFF BONNER, Newport Pagnell, Bucks. I FuLLY support the need for equal pay and that people have the right to demonstrate to achieve this.
But how can carrie Gracie say she has resigned when all she is doing is moving jobs within the same organisation with no loss of benefits or income? You would not be able to protest and pick and choose where you wanted to work in a private firm.
It seems like a token gesture to obtain publicity. If carrie had such high principles, she’d have resigned.
TOM RICHARDSON, Knaresborough, N. Yorks. At tHe BBc, men’s salaries should be brought down to the level of the women’s, not the other way round.
FRANK REILLY, Orpington, Kent. DurInG a long career in the private and state sector, I have never come across two people with identical capabilities. As our value is how much our unique capabilities, minus our deficiencies, can benefit an organisation, no two people can be considered equal and deserving of equal reward.
