A MIrAcLe has occurred! I requested copies of statements from the council and was surprised when they wrote back to say I was exempt from council tax because I had died — and I must inform them immediately if my circumstances change.

It was a shock as I felt reasonably healthy, but it was in black and white. When I phoned the council to ask for details, I was told: ‘I can only tell you what’s on the screen. I’m not a doctor! If you have any complaints, contact the departments involved in writing or make a new claim.’

I said: ‘How can I if I have passed away?’ Back came the reply: ‘tell them you have been reincarnated.’ JAN MOULAND KOWALCZYK,

London W3.
