IT IS of little comfort for the lady in Australia who was disappointed that Christmas cards she sent to the UK failed to arrive in time (Letters), but the same happened in reverse. I posted my Christmas cards to Australia on December 8 and only a few arrived on time.

I POSTED a parcel to my son and his fiancee in Sydney on December 2. It arrived on December 5, but for reasons known only to themselves, Australia Post decided to return it to London!

Royal Mail promptly sent it back, but because of the delay it didn’t clear Customs in time to be delivered in time for Christmas.
