PICK OF THE DAY
KIRI, 9PM, CH4
SARAH LANCASHIRE heads the cast of this gripping four-part drama from Jack Thorne (who wrote 2016’s National Treasure), which begins with a nine-year-old black girl going missing. With her adoption by a white couple imminent, little Kiri vanishes during an unsupervised visit to her birth grandparents (‘biological makes them sound like washing powder’), arranged by social worker Miriam (the superb Lancashire, pictured). To her horror, Miriam finds the finger of blame pointing squarely at her, with police, the Press and even her colleagues holding her responsible. Lia Williams, Steven Mackintosh and Sue Johnston also star.
