THE GOOD CAUSES THAT HAVE BENEFITED
SUPPORTING CHILDREN STRUCK BY CANCER
IT is estimated that ten young children and teenagers discover they have cancer every day. Lidl pledged £500,000 from bag sales to support the cancer charity CLIC Sargent’s work with families. The money will fund clinical, practical and emotional support – including grants, information, hospital accommodation and holidays.
CREATING WILDLIFE GARDENS IN SCHOOLS
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is using £2million from Aldi to connect half a million children to nature. The charity will pay for 25 gardens in school grounds and green spaces.
SEEKING A CURE FOR DEMENTIA
The £350million University College London dementia research centre will investigate cures and new treatments and Asda, Iceland, Waitrose and Morrisons have pledged to help fill a shortfall of £100million using plastic bag tax proceeds.
TEACHING CHILDREN NOT TO LITTER
Lidl, which has charged for bags since the 1990s, has given £500,000 to the charity Keep Britain Tidy’s Eco Schools programme to educate youngsters about litter.
