KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB
BARGAIN OF THE WEEK Castillo de Monterey Godello 2016, £7.50 (normally £9.50), M&S
PUT some tropical fruit into your glass with a splash of this, made from the Godello grape grown in the Galicia region in north-west Spain, bordering Portugal. It’s so fresh and ripe it adds instant zip.
ROSE WINE Peter Yealands Sauvignon Blanc Rosé, £9.99, Waitrose
IT’S New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, but not as we know it. A dollop of Merlot from the North Island’s Hawkes Bay region has been added to Marlborough Sauvignon, giving it a touch of pink colour. Too good to save until the sun comes out.
FOOD PAIRING: Crab linguine.
RED WINE Tesco Finest Barossa Shiraz 2016, £10
THIS wine, from one of Australia’s oldest wine regions, is deliciously rich and full-bodied, packed with juicy black fruit flavours and black pepper. Best with food or a box set!
FOOD PAIRING: Bangers and mash.
SPARKLING WINE Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut NV, £10.99, Aldi
THIS champagne is great value, has real toasty character and lots of fresh, light, citrus fruit flavours. It is worth stocking up on if you’ve got a celebration on the horizon — like getting to the end of dry January.
FOOD PAIRING: Crisps and dips.
