Real blame for crisis

-

THERE is a conspiracy of silence over the real reasons the NHS is struggling — the waste of billions, mismanagement, providing a world health service and uncontrolled immigration.

Politicians should hang their heads in shame as they refuse to rectify these problems and instead blame the elderly. PHIL GRANGER, W. Malling, Kent. IT’S true that the older generation is bringing the NHS to its knees. I’m 92 and have just spent a week in hospital where the average age of the patients was 85-plus.

So what’s the answer? Take us on a trip to Beachy Head where we could chuck ourselves over the cliff like lemmings? Or would that put a strain on the funeral services? I’m afraid that those of us who were brought up on a diet of bread and dripping, and a sprinkling of sugar on our bread and marge as we couldn’t afford jam, have a lot to answer for.

Mrs S. WELLS, Guildford.
