Drastic on plastic

-

WE SHOULD be encouraging the younger generation to clean up the planet for themselves. If councils offered children and teenagers a penny for each piece of plastic they hand in to collection points, it would actually encourage them to put down their mobile phones and do something useful.

ANDY ROUSE, Sunningdale, Berks. I AM an avid recycler, but the planet-threatening problem of plastic waste could be solved overnight if the Government were to clamp down on the culprits who were responsible for it in the first place.

The number of plastic bags has declined because supermarkets were forced to charge for them.

The same should happen with the mountains of plastic packaging in which food is sold. MRS ANGELA HERITAGE,
