British riders alerted over Froome test

- By MATT LAWTON Chief Sports Reporter

BRITISH CYCLING responded to the news of Chris Froome’s failed drugs test by contacting all their riders about inhaler use. Froome is battling to clear his name after producing an adverse finding for salbutamol during the Vuelta a Espana last September. If the four-times Tour de France winner is unable to produce evidence to explain the finding, he faces being stripped of his Vuelta victory and suspension from the sport. But in a bid to avoid a repeat, British Cycling invited their elite riders to speak to the medical team at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester if they have any concerns about their own inhaler use. Yesterday the governing body unveiled their new independent chairman. Frank Slevin, 54, who has a background in banking but is currently the executive chair of House of Fraser, has succeeded Jonathan Browning and is intent on restoring credibility to an organisation severely damaged by scandals.
