Top nurse ‘beaten by husband’ in escort row
A SENIOR NHS nurse has won a restraining order against her husband after claiming he beat her when she accused him of cheating with escorts.
Dr Manju Luckson, 38, believed Luckson Francis-Augustine met prostitutes during business trips. But when she confronted the 38-year-old company director, he allegedly slapped her and said: ‘If a woman wants to sleep with me because I have a big ****, who are you to question that?’
Manchester Magistrates’ Court was told that Dr Luckson and Francis-Augustine, both from India, married 14 years ago, when she took his forename as her surname. Dr Luckson, a mother of three who works at the National Institute for Health Research, said he became abusive after she had their first child in 2005.
The court heard police were called to their house in Sale, Greater Manchester, in November after they argued. She told officers about an incident in August when her husband attacked her after she confronted him about chatting to women online and sleeping with female escorts.
Lynn Rogers, prosecuting, said: ‘ She and her husband were in bed when she asked him about a trip he was taking.
‘He replied, “Who are you to ask me questions? I am the man and I have the right to go, and if a woman wants to sleep with me because I have a big ****, who are you to question that?”. He continued to say, “You need a big slap to your face. Keep quiet”. The defendant then slapped her, causing her pain and discomfort.’
Francis-Augustine was due to go on trial accused of controlling or coercive behaviour against his wife between 2015 and 2017. But the charge was dropped on Tuesday after Dr Luckson refused to enter the witness box to give evidence.
Instead, magistrates imposed a 12month restraining order banning Francis-Augustine, who has moved out of the family home, from contacting his wife.
He denied any wrongdoing.
