RAF wipes out IS drone unit ...with a drone

-

THE RAF has for the first time used drones to kill Islamic State terrorists operating their own unmanned aircraft in Syria, the Ministry of Defence said yesterday.

Now on the back-foot, IS has increasingly turned to drones to spy on ground forces, as well as arming them with grenades to launch attacks.

But the MoD revealed that last Thursday British drone pilots took out a fanatic controlling an unmanned aircraft on a rooftop to locate and kill local forces.

Days later a Reaper drone was deployed again to ‘eliminate’ another terrorist drone team on a rooftop.

Then on Sunday a Reaper spotted the third terrorist drone team in a week and fired a Hellfire missile at extremists hiding in a building.

The MoD has confirmed that around 130 UK-linked nationals have been killed in fighting in the region.

Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said: ‘We have been clear that Daesh [IS] terrorists have nowhere to hide and we will continue to fight until their poisonous global network is totally destroyed.’

Britain’s Reaper drones are operated by pilots based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire and at a US air base.
