HERO PILOT
Lancaster Pilot Leonard Cheshire was not only the youngest Group Captain in Bomber Command, but also the most decorated. The son of an Oxford law professor, he completed an extraordinary 102 missions - including heroic spells leading the Pathfinder Force which guided bombers to their targets. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for ‘outstanding personal achievement’ against ‘the bitterest opposition’. After the war he became an tireless campaigner for the disabled.
