Should we applaud the fact that President Trump has cancelled his UK visit?

-

DONALD TRUMP’S decision to delay a formal visit to our great nation is far from surprising. It’s ironic that the president of the world’s most powerful state, who has instigated political protests in the Middle East over his decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, should cancel a visit to his country’s closest ally over fears of public protest.

ADAM MOUFASSIH, Newcastle.

I HOPE the anti-Trump brigade are happy he has turned his back on the UK and that they must find another country to help us out in any future conflict. Are our Armed Forces strong enough to defend our shores from Russian warships and fighter planes? So what do we do? We disrespect the only friend who is powerful enough to help us.

Name and address supplied.

I AM not a fan of Mr Trump, but I think he should be given the state visit in keeping with

his position as U.S. President. We might not like him or his policies, but in the Army the saying is you salute the uniform, not the person. Who knows, he might learn something from us, such as fair play and respecting other people’s opinion and way of life?

RONALD BALL, Farnborough, Hants.

WHY is Donald trump acting like the boy who doesn’t want to go to school because he’s afraid he’ll be attacked by the school bullies? it’s true he is a narcissistic, ignorant braggart, but it’s disrespectful to the presidential office that the likes of Jeremy corbyn are trying to jeopardise the relationship between the UK and the U.s. after all, Mr corbyn has shown in the past that he has no problem welcoming dictators and other leaders with appalling human rights records.

RITA ARUNDALE, Granada, Spain.

THE Left is cheering because President Trump isn’t coming to Britain. Will they cheer when he announces that since he isn’t welcome, there won’t be a post-Brexit trade agreement?

J. LONG, Cheltenham, Glos.

NO MATTER what we think of President trump, he is the democratically elected leader of one of our closest allies. i am sure the Queen and former prime ministers have shaken hands with some awful world leaders. the Mayor of london should put his diplomatic hat on and keep his populist opinions to himself.

FAY GOODWIN, Lutterworth, Leics.

IT APPEARS President Trump won’t be coming to the UK as he thinks he ‘won’t be welcome’. Britain won’t miss out on much, although if he doesn’t want to travel to places where he won’t be welcome, then he won’t be getting many frequent flyer points.

D. FITZGERALD, Melbourne, Australia.
