Matalan’s web sales surging

SHOPPERS flocked to Matalan in the run up to Christmas.

But it was online sales that gave the discount store a real boost. They were up 24.7pc, compared to 6.2pc in the stores.

Those customers who came through the doors, however, snapped up discount homeware and clothes, including items from ranges including one designed by supermodel Abbey Clancy ( pictured).

This boosted fullprice sales by 2.6pc and helped lift revenue from £132.6m to £142.3m in the f i ve weeks to December 30.

Jason Hargreaves, Matalan’s chief executive, said ‘savvy customers’ sought out ‘genuine value’ over the Christmas period.
