KPMG criminal probe

SCANDAL- HIT auditor KPMG is under criminal investigation for its work with South Africa’s tainted Gupta family.

The Guptas are at the centre of a bribery and corruption storm over their links to the nation’s most powerful political leaders.

KPMG worked for the family for 15 years and tried to head off the disaster last year by apologising and sacking eight top staff in the country. But the South African corporate register has filed criminal complaints with the police.

In the past KPMG has been criticised for failing to spot problems at toxic bank HBOS in the run-up to the financial crisis and missing a £1.5bn black hole at the Co-op Bank.
