Neville’s delight at England women job
PHIL NEVILLE says taking charge of England’s women is ‘the best job I could ask for’ as he prepares for imminent confirmation of his appointment.
Neville has been lined up as the FA’s successor to sacked Mark Sampson and Sportsmail understands the former Manchester United defender will be unveiled in the coming days.
‘I have the opportunity to go to a World Cup and be successful with a group of professional players,’ Neville said on BBC Radio 5 Live last night. ‘As coach, it’s the best job I could ask for.’
Neville, 40, will lead England Women ahead of the World Cup in France next summer, despite having no coaching experience in women’s football. I’ll be going into international football and will learn the culture of the women’s game,’ added Neville. ‘I am always going to get criticism because I’ll be going into the women’s game but that is testament to the level of the game.’
Meanwhile, Doncaster boss Darren Ferguson has been charged for saying it would be a ‘good idea’ to shoot referees after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Plymouth. SOUTHEND boss Phil Brown is set to leave the club after being put on gardening leave. Chris Powell is set to replace him.
