General Charles ramsay, who has died aged 82, was aggrieved that his father was never mentioned in Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster, Dunkirk.
Vice-admiral Sir Bertram ‘Bertie’ ramsay masterminded the evacuation of Dunkirk from deep within the tunnels of Dover Castle. as it happens, Bertie (played by David Bamber) features prominently in Darkest Hour, the Churchill film for which Gary oldman is tipped to win an oscar.
‘It is a great shame that Charles did not live long enough to see his hero father in the film.
‘He would have been so proud,’ says a friend.
