Super-jumbo saved as Airbus lands orders

-

PLANE MAKER Airbus has finally secured another order for its stricken double-decker A380 jets, rescuing the jet for at least another decade.

Dubai airline Emirates has agreed to buy an extra 20 of the world’s largest planes with an option for 16 more, in a deal worth up to £11.5bn.

It comes just one day after Airbus’s outgoing Chief Operating Officer John Leahy said the production line for the planes would be shut down unless it secured a new order.

Wings for the 544-seaters are made in north Wales and Bristol, supporting thousands of UK jobs.

Airbus had been due to announce a deal with Emirates at the Dubai airshow last November but talks broke down at the last minute and have continued since.
