We’re failing our soldiers

-

ON A day-trip to Edinburgh in early december, I saw the homeless former serviceman darren greenfield at Waverley station (Mail).

It was a freezing day, so I bought him a bacon roll, which he received gracefully and politely. He looked so ill that I rang the Salvation Army and the Royal British legion about his plight.

They told me they had been contacted by other concerned members of the public, too, but it seems Mr greenfield was unable to face life in civilian society.

I was distressed to read of his death, probably not long after I saw him. It is so sad the culture in the Army, which works so well to produce worldclass soldiers, works against them when they return to civilian life.

HEATHER GREEN, York.
