Celtic clash to honour Weir

-

SCOTLAND will face Six Nations opponents Wales in November — playing for the newly named ‘Doddie Weir Cup’. Weir, the 47-year-old ex-Scotland second-row, has recently been diagnosed with motor neurone disease and the match will raise awareness for his charity. The game will be played on November 3 in Cardiff, before each nation faces three southern hemisphere teams in the autumn Tests. Rhys Priestland is unlikely to feature in the Six Nations. The Bath fly-half’s hamstring pull is worse than first thought, so he will not join the Wales squad on Monday. Meanwhile, Saracens wing Nathan Earle will join Harlequins next season.

JUDD TRUMP held off a stunning comeback from Shaun Murphy yesterday to win 6-4 and book his place in the Dafabet Masters semi-finals at Alexandra Palace. Trump, 28, will face Kyren Wilson on Saturday, with Mark Allen awaiting the winner of last night’s match between John Higgins and Ryan Day in the other semi-final.

TYSON FURY’S boxing licence will be reinstated if the former world heavyweight champion passes a medical. Fury applied for clearance to resume fighting after accepting a backdated two-year ban last month in the wake of testing positive for nandrolone. The British Boxing Board met Fury yesterday and decided that if he passes health checks, he will be allowed to box again.
