Poch: We will NOT be spending

- ADAM SHERGOLD at St Mary’s

MAURICIO POChettInO insisted he is relaxed about tottenham’s top four rivals strengthening their squads this month despite losing ground in the Champions League race.

Spurs will be five points off fourth if Liverpool win at Swansea tonight after they were held 1-1 at Southampton despite harry Kane’s 99th Premier League goal.

Liverpool splashed out £75million on Virgil van Dijk, Chelsea bought Ross Barkley and continue their pursuit of a striker, and Arsenal are poised to sign Pierreemerick Aubameyang. Spurs meanwhile, have yet to spend a penny this January.

‘I am not concerned about that,’ said Pochettino. ‘In the window, it will be difficult to add quality to the team. I am very relaxed and calm, I am not concerned, I am happy with the squad we have. It is not easy to add a player who can help for three months. It is very difficult. For some clubs it is easier but it is not easy for us.’

On the performance, Pochettino added: ‘I am disappointed because our performance wasn’t the best.We made a lot of mistakes in possession that allowed them to create some chances and to feel comfortable on the pitch. the result is fair, we only got one point and we need to improve.’

Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino brushed off fears about losing his job as their winless run stretched to an 11th league match, joking that management is like ‘the electric chair’.

‘We are in trouble in the table, but in three or four weeks it can change,’ he said. ‘Because 10 or 11 teams there are within a few points and that will stay the same.

‘In Argentina, we say that the job is the electric chair, it is not easy to stay in the seat. I am not afraid to lose my job, it is part of life. the essence of everything is that this is a game. When you win, you have to win again. When you draw, you have to win. When you lose, you have to win.

‘even when you are the best, the first, on Monday you have to train to be the best again. It is never finished.’
