HRT FOR HAIR LOSS
CONCERNS about protruding teeth or other ‘cosmetic’ problems can seem insignificant when considered alongside life-threatening conditions such as cancer and dementia.
But these issues are widespread and can still cause people significant distress.
Among those suffering in silence are women with hair loss. Few of us — and I include doctors in this — acknowledge
just how common it is, particularly following the menopause, with around 33 per cent reporting hair loss as a symptom, according to a survey of 1,000 women.
While nutrition is clearly important, the link with lowered oestrogen levels means we must also consider hormone replacement therapy as a treatment — even though this is ‘just’ a cosmetic issue.
