Klopp loses his cool with Swans fan

- ALEX BYWATER at the Liberty Stadium

JURGEN KLOPP admitted frustration got the better of him as the Liverpool boss was involved in a heated war of words with a home fan at the full-time whistle. Klopp saw his side lose their 18-game unbeaten run at Swansea, with Alfie Mawson’s header the game’s only goal. Klopp said: ‘He was shouting at me and I reacted one time. I have to remind myself I’m a human being. Nobody could hear what he said and I have no problem with it, but there was just one moment when I thought it was enough. It felt quite good. ‘I’m sure I’m not the first manager to have a problem with him. I should not react, but I didn’t say anything bad. I only made it clear I wasn’t happy with what he said.’ Swansea had 28 per cent of possession and Liverpool managed 21 shots on goal. The statistics only pointed to one result, but the visitors could not find the net. Roberto Firmino’s header in four minutes of added time struck the post, to sum up a night of frustration for Liverpool. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Firmino had an off-night as Swansea produced an impressive backs-to-the-wall display. Klopp admitted his team did not deserve to take anything from the game. ‘I’m more frustrated with the performance than the result and I’m angry because it was not a good game,’ the German said. ‘We lost the match in the first half. We didn’t do what we wanted to do. ‘It hasn’t happened too often so I didn’t expect that and I was quite surprised. We had a chance right at the end, but if we had got a point it would still have been a bad game for us. ‘The game was the opposite of what we wanted. The fact we have nothing is our fault.’ Yet it was a night of pure elation for Carlos Carvalhal, who has lost just once in his six matches in charge, with Swansea now three points from safety. ‘In terms of relegation we are now not in the emergency room, we are accepting visits. It is good for our confidence.’ Mawson said: ‘It was great to score the goal, but this season I’ve been at fault for a few as well so you have to take the good with the bad. It could be a massive three points come the end of the season.’
