Hunt backs new therapies

JEREMY Hunt yesterday promised to ‘look carefully’ into Dame Tessa’s calls for innovative new cancer treatments.

The Health Secretary praised her ‘courage’ and insisted he would look at other options that could be offered on the NHS. He tweeted: ‘Grace, courage & passion: what a moving interview with Tessa Jowell this morning. I’ll look carefully at her suggestions on cancer care & treatment.’

Tributes were been paid in Parliament after Dame Tessa spoke publicly about her brain cancer diagnosis. Labour MP Sarah Jones told the House about the ‘utter relentless positivity and complete commitment to changing the world’ of her former boss.

She also urged both Mr Hunt and Theresa May to meet with Dame Tessa. However, the PM appeared to dodge the invitation. She said: ‘We do want to make sure the best treatments are being provided and we will consider investing in anything that improves that.’
