Donna Galley, 35, who has three children, said: ‘ The scheme is absolutely useless. I have to get my kids to jump on the rubbish to force it down.

‘I recycle as much as I can, but by the time the collection is made the rubbish is spilling out everywhere.’

Nikita Herbert, 25, who has two children, said that, despite being a keen recycler, she already had bags of rubbish which wouldn’t fit in her bin.

The full-time mother said: ‘It overflows and it’s disgusting. The four-week system causes health hazards.’

Conwy County council says the amount of black bin waste going to landfill has dropped by 31 per cent among households taking part in the fourweekly collection trial.

It says rolling it out to all households would save £400,000-a-year, while boosting recycling rates.
