Mother knows best

-

i HAVE to answer the lemonsucking perfectionists giving their sound advice on child rearing (Letters).

i remember an evening when we had guests, but our three children refused to go to bed and were demanding all sorts of attention from the top of the stairs. i was so embar - rassed when my then childless sister commented she would never allow any children of hers to behave in such a way.

Thankfully, another guest, who was a headmistress, said something i have never forgotten: ‘it is the easiest thing in the world to bring up someone else’s children.’

My children had dummies as babies, were bottle fed and occasionally needed chastis - ing for playing up.

Fortunately, they have grown up into the most caring , decent and hard- working daughters that anyone could wish for.

No, i didn’t do everything by the rulebook, but i can’t have done that badly, can i?
