The truth is out there... we’re all intersectional says Gillian

‘Complicated beings’

ASKED to explain the word ‘intersectionality’, most of us would be running for a dictionary.

But it seems X-Files star Gillian Anderson is rather more wellversed in trendy buzzwords.

In an interview where she opened up about her relationships, the bisexual actress, 49, said that she believes all humans are ‘intersectional, complicated beings’.

Originally coined in academic circles, intersectionality describes the theory that strands of humanity – such as class, race and sexual orientation – are interwoven and cannot be separated.

The star, who came out in 2012, said she has ‘absolutely no issue’ with her bisexuality. She explained: ‘It’s just who I am. I have absolutely no issue with it whatsoever, and I don’t really care if other people have an issue with it.

‘We’re all intersectional, and that is something that is only just beginning to become accepted or embraced. We’re all complicated beings. That is my truth and that is my experience.’

The twice-divorced star has been in a relationship with The Crown scriptwriter Peter Morgan since 2016.

Speaking to The Times magazine, she told how it was refreshing to be with someone who works in the same industry.

She said: ‘I’m constantly grateful for the symbiosis because I haven’t had that experience before.’

However, she went on to say: ‘I could be in a relationship with a woman next year.’
