I want that son of a bitch! Dad’s court attack on pervert who abused 3 gymnast daughters
A FATHER whose three daughters were sexually assaulted by a doctor for the US Olympic gymnastic team attempted to attack him in court yesterday.
Randall Margraves had asked if he could have five minutes with ‘this demon’ Larry Nassar.
When the request was denied by the judge, Mr Margraves lunged at the table where the paedophile sat, raising a fist before he was tackled by a defence lawyer as Nassar cowered behind a policeman.
‘Give me one minute with that bastard,’ Mr Margraves shouted as he was pinned to the ground. ‘I want that son of a bitch.’
Two of his daughters had just told the court how they and their sister were abused by 54-year- old Nassar under the guise of medical treatment when he was the gymnasts’ doctor.
Madison and Lauren Margraves said their family was struggling to cope in the wake of the assaults. Their sister Morgan had given a statement at an earlier hearing.
Lauren, who was 13 when she was molested, said of her parents: ‘I see the look on their faces and I know they want to do something and they can’t.’ Madison tearfully described the past few months as ‘hell’.
Mr Margraves became increasingly angry during the readings, with his gaze fixed on Nassar.
He asked if he could give a brief statement and said: ‘I would ask you as part of the sentencing to grant me five minutes in a locked room with this demon. Would you give me one minute?’
When Judge Janice Cunningham turned down his request, explaining that it was not how the legal system operates, Mr Margraves said, ‘Well, I’m gonna have to...’ before sprinting towards Nassar and trying to hit the doctor.
The court was then cleared, and when the hearing resumed assistant attorney general Angela Povilaitis told victims’ families to ‘use your words’ not violence. ‘We cannot behave like this … this is not helping your children,’ she added.
Yesterday’s was the third and final sentencing hearing at Eaton County Court, Michigan, for Nassar on sex abuse charges.
He was last month sentenced to 175 years in jail for preying on more than 150 girls.
