‘3 Brexiteers’ plot rubbished

-

MINISTERS rallied round Theresa May yesterday amid claims of a plot to install a ‘dream team’ of ‘three Brexiteers’.

It was reported that Eurosceptics want Boris Johnson to sign up to a deal to force out the Prime Minister and move into No 10 himself.

They want Mr Johnson to sign a pact to install Environment Secretary Michael Gove as Deputy Prime Minister and Tory backbencher Jacob Rees-Mogg as Chancellor, according to The Sunday Times. All three men campaigned for Brexit in 2016’s referendum.

Others want Mr Johnson to offer Home Secretary Amber Rudd, who campaigned for Remain, the position of Chancellor. Last night a senior government source said the idea of a plot was ‘for the birds’.

And asked whether she would serve under Mr Johnson as Chancellor, Miss Rudd said: ‘That is such a difficult question on so many different levels, I’m going to pass.’

Tory chairman Brandon Lewis told the BBC: ‘Theresa May is the right person to lead our party. She’s who the public want to see deliver a good Brexit for our country and actually has got a poll rating above the opposition leader.’

Mr Lewis said the Government should be focused on ‘delivering a good Brexit’.
