Momentum moves in
CLAIRE Kober’s ruling Labour group in Haringey has been ripped apart by pro-Corbyn Momentum activists. There have been months of bitter deselection battles in which ‘moderate’ councillors were picked off and replaced by nominees of the hard-Left group.
At least 15 Haringey Labour politicians have either withdrawn from local elections this May – or been axed.
Infighting broke out in 2016 over a £2billion plan to build homes with the transfer of council assets and land into a 50-50 partnership with a private developer.
Critics described the project as ‘ social cleansing’ and launched a legal challenge, which is awaiting a High Court judgment.
Haringey argued that the scheme was vital when it had more than 9,000 households on its waiting list and 3,000 families in temporary accommodation.
