Perfect platforms for sitting and sleeping

-

ARISER recliner is the ultimate luxury in the living room, perfect for lounging on when watching the latest curved or flatscreen TVs. The best riser recliner chairs help you to sit down effortlessly, relax comfortably and even stand up again confidently.

But buy the wrong one and you could end up with more aches and pains than you started with. The key to getting it right is all in the fitting, so it’s worth taking notes of these pointers experts use when measuring up for a bespoke chair.

FIRST, it’s important to ensure the soles of your feet will be flat on the floor when you are seated. If the seat is too high, your feet will dangle, which could cause strain to the calves, knees and thighs. If it is too low, your knees will lift into the air, which won’t provide the support you need.

SEAT depth must be correct, too. When sitting back into the chair, there should be no more than a small gap behind the bend of the knee. And your thighs should be horizontal, spreading your weight evenly.

IF it is too wide, your arms and elbows will end up stretched outwards to the arms of the chair. Too narrow and you will feel squeezed at the hips.

YOUR head should sit squarely in the middle of the top cushion, ideally with a few inches of it showing above the chair back. And the comfort levels of the arms and back can be altered on request.

IF YOU have a health condition, do speak up when being measured. You might be able to opt for softer, pressure-relieving seating, for example. It’s all about getting a chair that gives you support just where you need it. And with a choice of fabrics, you can ensure it will look great in your home, too.

Meanwhile, research by the University of Warwick confirms that people who sleep for six to eight hours a night are likely to live longer than those who sleep for less than six, especially if they start banking those hours from mid-life on!

If your bed has seen better days, consider an adjustable one. Some have a massage function, which might ease twinges and help relieve the symptoms of backache, sciatica, swollen ankles and arthritis. To avoid aches and pains in the morning, it’s important that you have the right sleeping platform.
