FURIOUS KLOPP

Kop boss rages at last-gasp penalty

- DOMINIC KING reports from Anfield

JURGEN KLOPP was enraged after Liverpool were denied a crucial victory over Tottenham as one of the games of the season ended 2-2.

With seconds remaining, Harry Kane scored his 100th Premier League goal, firing in a penalty after Virgil van Dijk had been judged by assistant referee Eddie Smart to have kicked Erik Lamela. ‘It’s not a penalty,’ said Klopp. ‘I’ve heard Lamela was offside, running into Van Dijk. Virgil sees him at the last moment, stops the movement but still touches him. Lamela is already on the way down. The referee says keep on going, and the linesman makes the decision. That’s how it is. That’s what everybody saw.

‘If I say what I think I would pay the biggest fine in world football. That makes absolutely no sense.’

Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead but Victor Wanyama’s thunderbolt made it 1-1 with 10 minutes to go. Kane then missed a penalty and Salah looked to have won it with a wonderful second. But the Spurs striker got another chance from the spot and he made no mistake.
