AUBAMEYANG’S TOUCH OF QUALITY
IF you look at these touch maps in isolation, you could think that Alexis Sanchez had a better afternoon than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But Arsene Wenger’s philosophy is that less is more. He believes his players are more effective when they take fewer touches and move the ball quickly and efficiently. That is what we saw from Aubameyang against Everton. Despite having almost 100 fewer touches than Sanchez did for Manchester United against Huddersfield, Aubameyang made intelligent runs and showed his class in front of goal. Sanchez is deadly when he plays off the shoulder but he has a habit of overindulging on the ball. You can take as many touches as you need when you are in the box but by dropping deep and taking liberties in possession it slows down play. Sometimes, Sanchez tries to win the game all by himself and that can be frustrating for his team-mates.
