IN 2017, the Queen celebrated 65 years on the throne, making her Britain’s longest-serving monarch. With contributions from those who know her best, among them close friends, special advisers and members of the royal household, this affectionate and illuminating series chronicles Her Majesty’s remarkable life. The first of eight episodes explores her early years, including the day of Edward VIII’s abdication, when the young Elizabeth (pictured centre with Princess Margaret and their governess, Marion Crawford) emerged from a swimming lesson to be told that she was heir to the throne.
