PICK OF THE DAY
TROUBLE AT THE ZOO, 9PM, BBC2
IN EARLY 2017, South Lakes Safari Zoo near Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, made headlines when it was revealed that nearly 500 animals had died there in just four years. When the owner was refused a licence renewal, a groupgp of staff members picked up the reins, formed a new company and, after winning a four-year licence, set about bringing the ailing zoo back to life. This documentary follows keepers (including Kim, pictured) and staff over the five months that followed as they strive to restore the zoo’s tarnished reputation and, crucially, make sure all the animals are happy and healthy.
