Prophets of doom

-

THE Civil Service’s pretence of impartiality is no longer credible. The timing of the leaked document on the post-Brexit economy leaves little doubt as to which side it is on.

When all previous post-Brexit forecasts of doom and gloom by the Treasury, the IMF, the CBI and the Bank of England have proved to be hopelessly inaccurate, one would have expected Whitehall mandarins to hesitate before embarking on a further round of Project Fear.

Despite evidence to the contrary, the prophets of doom never give up.

DAVID MORGAN, Shrewsbury. DURING the two-year transition, the EU is demanding we continue to pay into its budget and follow all its rules, including any new directives. We should say: ‘No deal, goodbye.’

The unelected pen-pushers are so greedy that when they realise they could lose two years of our contribution, they will rethink their strategy.

PETER BRIDGE, Southampton. INSISTING on knowing what the Brexit terms are before negotiations have started is akin to asking the result of a football match before the game has been played. DAVID KAYE, Haywards Heath, W. Sussex.
