Unfair fines

-

IT IS neither reasonable nor fair of Leicester city council to slap a fine on the good Samaritan who stopped on yellow lines to help a rough sleeper on Christmas Day (Mail).

What harm has been done that necessitates a fine? Is this yet another example of the authorities taking money from motorists for no reason other than that they can?

SUSAN CAREY, Belper, Derbys. THE extortionate £600 fine imposed on a woman for disposing of a cardboard box in the wrong recycling bin made me think back to saner times when Lonnie Donegan had a hit with My Old Man’s A Dustman.

Among items improperly disposed of in dustbins were lilies (garden waste), toadstools (food recycling) and a tiger’s head, which should have been taken to a pet crematorium. I dread to think of the fines.

Not so far-fetched was the discovery of a policeman in a dustbin.

PHILIP STOY, Crickhowell, Powys.
